Brief

Create a hinged, box bangle with the design elements supplied by the client along with gold matching earrings.

The project

This wonderful commission was a technical challenge. With so many surfaces to solder together, it was a careful juggle of heat and positioning.

  • We used the artwork that was supplied by the client and created a series of design options, varying the layout of the design. When one was chosen we had the design laser engraved. This was done before we acquired our own laser engraver.
  • Carefully matched gold details like the mouse and hearts were cut and soldered to the engraved sheet before being bent into a cirle to form the outside edge.
  • The hollow bangle was entirely created from sterling silver and gold sheet. Comprised of an inner and outer cylinder connected by side panels, it is lighter than it’s appearance suggests.
  • Cut in half, the hinge was added and the box catch made and inserted for soldering.
  • The text was coloured and then final polish completed.

Below are the different stages during the making process.
