FAQs
Can you work from my rough sketch or do I need a proper design?
A rough sketch is perfect – even a phone photo of a drawing on paper works well. The collaborative design process means we’ll refine your ideas together through drawings until you’re happy with the design.
How long does a commission usually take?
Most pieces take 4-8 weeks depending on complexity but this is heavily influenced by my current workload and waiting list. If you need something for a specific date, let me know at the start so I can plan accordingly.
Can you incorporate my mum’s/gran’s old jewellery into something new?
Yes, I can melt down and reuse gold or silver from sentimental pieces, and I can also reset existing stones. We’ll discuss what’s possible during your initial consultation.
Will you copy a design I’ve seen elsewhere?
No – I don’t copy other designers’ work as it infringes their intellectual property rights. However, I can create something inspired by styles you like, making it unique to you with your own input.
Do you work with unusual materials like pet hair or ashes?
Yes, I regularly create memorial pieces using hair (horse, dog), ashes, teeth, and other meaningful materials. These are treated with the care and dignity they deserve, set in resin or incorporated respectfully.
How much will my commission cost?
Every piece is different, which is why it helps to give me a budget upfront. This lets me design within your constraints rather than spending time quoting multiple options. I’ll provide a detailed estimate explaining the steps and materials involved.
Do I need to visit the shop or can everything be done remotely?
Many commissions are done entirely by email and phone for clients across the UK. You can send photos and sketches, and the finished piece is posted via Special Delivery. Shop visits are welcome but not essential.
What if I’m not sure exactly what I want yet?
That’s completely normal. We start with a chat about what you’re drawn to, the occasion, and your budget. Through sketches and discussion, the design often emerges naturally – it’s a collaborative process.
Can you make jewellery for men?
Yes, I work with lots of male clients. I make rings, cufflinks, pendants, and other pieces in silver, gold, and stainless steel. The men’s gallery shows examples of previous commissions.
What happens if the ring size is wrong after it’s made?
On some designs, resizing is straightforward. On more complex pieces, getting the size right from the start is crucial as the piece may need to be remade. I’ll advise you on this when we discuss your design, and we can arrange a fitting if needed.
